My mission

From when I was a little boy, engineering has always fascinated me. As a kid, I was always there when the mechanic came visiting my dad’s horticultural company to do some repair jobs. I remember asking a lot of questions about what and why he was doing things. I would have loved to go to engineering school, but never got the chance. Instead, I was forced to work in my dad’s company. That’s how things went in those days.

Life took a little detour.

It was years later, when I found myself working for a pump supplier as a field salesman, that I rediscovered my love for engineering. Although I only had some basic technical knowledge at the time, I soon had an overall hanging in my car, for whenever there would be a technical problem, I would join the mechanics to ask questions and learn, just as I had done as a little boy. It was during that time that pumps really got a hold of me and I started studying pump technical books in the evenings, weekends and even on holidays.

“I soon had an overall hanging in my car”

“In the evenings, after working hours, I started training customers”

After a couple of years, I got the idea to start training our customers on pumps. I was a sales manager now and saw that a lot of them had a serious lack of technical knowledge, resulting in premature pump malfunctioning. For someone obsessed with engineering: that hurts. So in the evening, after working-hours, I started training customers on centrifugal pumps and its system. I kept on doing this in my own free time, until one day a student said that I should start doing this for myself.

That’s when Oveducon was born.

Fast forward 14 years and we are currently working with a team of 10+ pump enthusiasts to raise the bar of the pump industry, teaching and consulting on some of the world’s most challenging projects from Bangladesh to Mozambique. We won the Dutch national award of “Best technical educator of the year” 5 times in a row. I am the author of seven books on subjects ranging from pump selection to piping systems and frequency inverters.

What drives me as a technical trainer, is to try and light a technical fire in students. That same fire that got lit back when I was a little kid. Because what I learned is that saving those pump installations from early breakdown and high energy- and maintenance costs all starts with one thing: passion. For a passionate person not only does his or her job with more satisfaction, but does a better job overall. Passion can take you to great heights and literally make the impossible possible, just as it has done for me in my own life.

Therefore, I want to give everyone the chance I never got: to enjoy the best pump technical education imaginable.

Let’s raise the bar.

“It all starts with one thing: passion.”
